Blooming Good Fun Awards

2022 saw another fantastic running of Stanley Town Council’s “Blooming Good Fun” initiative, a competition for residents to create the most spectacular gardens, yards and planters in the Stanley area. Participation increased from the first competition and second.

Twenty passionate green fingered members/groups of the Stanley Community submitted their gardens, yards and open spaces into the competition. All the entries were of a very high standard, sparking excitement and big debate between judges.

The Awards Night

A Fantastic evening held at the Civic Hall Stanley, with guest speaker Ann Burns ‘Northumbria in Bloom Judge’ congratulating all the entrants. The 9 placed entries received a certificates, trophies and cash prizes. The awards night was also attended by local agencies including Durham County Council’s Civic Pride Team & Stanley’s Area Action Partnership. It was a terrific evening to reward residents who help to develop a sense of community and pride across the whole of the Parish.

Sergeant Dave Clark of Durham Constabulary, speaking at the event, hailed the project a success and talked about how well kept spaces and environments contribute to a decrease in Crime.

The competition was divided into 3 categories; Gardens, Planters & Yards, and Public Spaces.
