The appeal was first set up in 2006 for children in the Derwentside area and to date has helped over 3500 children have a happier Christmas day. Last year with your help and generosity 534 children in Derwentside woke up to presents on Christmas morning, 361 of those in the Stanley area. In anticipation of your support we would like to thank you for donating to this year’s appeal.
There will be a box in the reception area of Stanley Civic Hall, local businesses and schools for anyone wishing to donate a present between 30th November and 15th December.
We appeal to you to help make Christmas special by donating new, unwrapped gifts for children & young people who face the reality of waking up to nothing under the Christmas tree this year.
So go on make a child smile this Christmas morning and buy an extra gift this year!
From experience of previous years gifts most needed are for-
Under 1 year old children (rattles, educational toys but not cuddly toys please)
Gifts for Teenage boys (age appropriate games, cosmetics, watches etc)
We would ask that all donations please be new and unwrapped to help empower the parent/carer to wrap them for their children.
“One family had returned from holiday in December to find the family home had been burgled. The presents bought for the big day had amongst other items been stolen. Due to the holiday finances were low and support was needed from the Toy Appeal to ensure the children had gifts to open on Dec 25th”.
“Mum and dad within a local family had jobs in factories, but within a 4 week period leading up to Christmas lost their jobs meaning they didn’t have money to buy gifts for Christmas. The gifts donated helped their 2 children have a special time”
